Outdoor learning and creative play are at the heart of our provision, with Pilrig Park being a key feature of our emphasis on learning in a natural environment. Our ethos is to allow children the time and space to develop skills, interests and understanding through a range of activities which provide practical, hands-on experiences in a natural environment.
Safety is of utmost importance whilst allowing the children to engage in many activities. All activities are closely supervised by our staff who will have undergone appropriate training.
Themes will be a focus of our outdoor activities and developing the children’s Gaelic vocabulary of outdoor items such as wildlife, plants, flowers and trees. We will be able to call upon Emily Edwards, Gaelic Communications Officer at Scottish Natural Heritage to update our own knowledge and plan a programme of events. An Education Pack specifically designed for schools has just been launched with lots of good ideas on how to make the most of the outdoors. Emily has also agreed to run a workshop for our children and staff that will then guide our future activities.
