Music and performance is a key aspect of Gaelic culture and is an integral part of Gaelic-medium education. Many of our children are engaged in the Fèis and also perform at local and national Mods. The children are already becoming accomplished musicians and performers.
We are developing a programme of activities for the children with the key focus being music and drama. A plethora of local Gaelic speaking musicians and perfomers exist to undertake tutor sessions within our wraparound setting.
Our research indicates that parents would value the opportunity for their children to participate in music and drama lessons during the week and under the auspices of their wraparound care. For many parents this will reduce arranging and transporting children to similar activities at other times of the week or at the weekend.
As a Gaelic-medium school much work is undertaken to prepare the children for the local and national Mods. With Òganan Dhùn Èideann there is the opportunity to run regular sessions with the children. The aim of these sessions is not necessarily performance but to sing purely for pleasure and a bit of fun.
